Nasal mucus is incredibly common. Mucus is in the body all the time, and its primary function is to provide protection and lubrication to various parts and processes. Sometimes however, the color can vary and production can increase, and this is often an indication of illness.
Coughing up yellow mucus can instantly put most people on edge and instantly lead them to believe that an infection caused from viruses or bacteria is to blame. While it’s true that often times, varying shades of throat mucus can certainly be caused by germy sources, it’s just not always the case.
Coughing up white mucus can be alarming, but when it’s chronic and lasts for more than a few days, it can be even more unnerving. In most cases, mucus is a necessary and healthy part of biological makeup.
